Gayle Legault Obituary

Gayle Rheal Legault passed away July 13th at his home in Val Marie Saskatchewan at the age of 73. Gayle was born in Edmonton Alberta on May 11th, (Mother's Day) 1947, to parents Rheal Tommy and Diane Legault. Gayle was predeceased by his parents, Tommy and Diane Legault. He is survived by his 3 children; Carmen (Duane) Hanson, Karson (Susan) Legault, and Cody (Jan) Legault and his grandchildren, Jayne, Arlis, Damon and Mckenna. Also, his brother Edward (Patsy) Legault and their children Randy (Andrea), Blair (Milica), and Glennis (Ray Gauvin) and their families who reside in Calgary. Gayle attended Val Marie School until Grade 9. He married Debra Olson in Nov. 1971 and they made their first home on the West Flat. They had 3 children; Carmen born July 1972, Karson born May 1974, and Cody born Oct. 1975. In 1977 Gayle and Debbie moved one mile west where they built a new home in 1986. Gayle and Debbie separated in 1999 and later divorced. Other than working on the rigs in the north for a few months and a short stint at a Fly In Fishing Camp at Selwyn Lake Lodge, Gayle spent his life doing what he loved, which was ranching. Gayle was a lifetime member of the SK. Wildlife Federation. He was also a member of the Loring Trap Club, local 4H Beef Club, and Val Marie Curling Club. Gayle's special interests included hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, playing minor hockey, and watching rodeo. Gayle had a keen eye for cattle and could spot quality heifers and bulls in any crowd. He was a talented welder and spent many hours inventing, designing and building equipment in his shop. Much of the equipment Gayle built is still being used in the day to day ranch operations such as a 28 feet Landroller, horse trailer, Dew Eze Bale Loader, and water pump for irrigation. Gayle understood the irrigation system better than anyone and could eyeball slope, level, and create efficient drainage systems. He was one of the few people to own Leaf Cutter Bees which were used on the irrigation land to harvest alfalfa seed. Gayle loved to take fishing trips and his favorite spots were Canoe Lake and LaRonge. A private family graveside service was held at the Val Marie Cemetery. Warren's Funeral Home in Swift Current is entrusted with the arrangements. Donations in Gayle's memory may be made to the Val Marie Ambulance or Val Marie Rec Board. The family wishes to thank everyone for their kind words, cards, and gifts of food and friendship. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
