Elsie Brown Obituary

The memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on October 9, 2020 from Memory Gardens Cemetery with Reverend Annette Taylor officiating. The pallbearers were Alan Osborne, Craig Bardahl, Dale Hovdestad, David Slinkard, Kelly Cummings and Kelly Ford. Elsie is survived by her sons, Thomas Mark Brown, Darren Elmer Brown; daughters-in-law, Linda Brown and Vickie Anne Brown; grandchildren, Miranda Brown (Connor Moen) and Angela Brown (Zach Coward); great-grandchildren, Oliver Moen and Hudson Moen; sister, Edna Stach; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Florence Howes; husband, Joseph Andrew Brown; son, Joseph Myles Brown; brothers, Lawrence Howes and Lewis Trotter; sisters, Morna Perron, Winsome Gillespie, Annie Howes and Lois Waker; sister-in-law; Betty Trotter; daughter-in-law; Shelby Johnson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Elsie was born in Swift Current on March 29, 1932 with her twin brother, Lawrence. They came home from the Hospital sharing a shoe box for the ride home. Elsie attended school at Whitehall School. Elsie and Joseph Andrew Brown married on a beautiful sunny day, November 5, 1954, at First United Church in Swift Current. Elsie worked on the family farm, raising her three sons, feeding livestock, and maintaining the yard and a huge garden. She also worked as a housekeeper as a young lady at Woolworth's cafeteria once the boys were old enough to fend for themselves when they got off the school bus. When Dad became ill with Parkinson Disease, Mom was his caregiver and never once complained how hard it was both physically and mentally that it had to be for her to do so. Mom was a very good seamstress and made clothes for the family, also sewing upholstery work for home and automotive applications. She was always an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, puzzles and word searches. Mom and Dad both enjoyed the many evenings playing cards with neighbours at the community halls and homes in the area. Mom always had a huge heart - not only for all of her family's but for all animals, especially the horses and pets. Family gatherings with her sisters and brothers' families were an especially fond time for her that she would often prepare for over several days. Many of her three sons' friends still call her their second mom with great admiration and love. She will be missed by all who ever met her and were fortunate enough to get to know her. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
