It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Edward Talaga of Swift Current, who left us on September 18, 2024, at the age of 90.
Ed, the first-born child of Mike and Agnes Talaga, was born on March 13, 1934, in Mundare, Alberta. He played many sports during his childhood and teen years, and continued curling and golfing throughout his life. Ed was an avid Saskatchewan Roughrider and Edmonton Oiler fan. He was also a huge Swift Current Bronco supporter, and with season tickets, never missed a game.
Ed worked in the farm equipment business for 68 years. His career began with Cockshutt Farm Equipment in Edmonton in 1952. It was there he met his wife, Faith Minto. Ed and Faith married on November 12, 1955. His career with Cockshutt and White Farm Equipment took them from Edmonton to Peace River, then Regina. In 1977, Ed and Faith purchased Armstrong Implements in Swift Current. This remains a family-owned business from which Ed retired in 2020.
Ed was a successful and self-made man. He taught all of us the value of working hard, by modelling hard work himself, and through his expectations that we also work hard and be the best at whatever we were doing.
Ed and Faith travelled to many locations throughout the world including New Zealand, Germany, The Netherlands, France, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, and Alaska. They travelled to several Caribbean islands before finding Aruba. They spent 35 winters enjoying their favorite island, made lifelong friends there, and took several friends and family to also enjoy the island. Ed had an adventurous spirit and took in all life had to offer.
Ed has maintained many lifelong friends. He has been part of the Kinsmen and K40 organization from his days in Peace River till his passing. Ed loved to entertain and always had a joke. He was a gifted speaker and was called upon many times to MC every kind of occasion.
Ed always assumed everyone acted with their best intentions and as a result he was often sought out for advice and guidance by many who knew him. Ed was a humorous and wise man and will be missed by many.
Ed is survived by his children Susan Brown, Bob Talaga (Laurie), Beth Vachon (Lance), Kathy Robson (Dean) and Mike Talaga (D’Lores) and his grandchildren Steven (Tracey) Hain, Kelsey (George) Tsougrianis, Brandon (Monique) Talaga, Brett (Megan) Talaga, Greg (Shawnee) Vachon, David (Rebecca) Vachon, Jay (Emily) Vachon, Brooke Robson (Dylan Jackle), Laura Robson (Tim Vanstone) and his 17 great grandchildren. Ed is also survived by his brothers Marvin Talaga (Janet), Raymond Talaga (Irene) and sister Margaret Palichuk as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ed is predeceased by his parents Mike and Agnes, Faith, his wife of 65 years, son Brian and son-in-law Terry Brown.
A funeral service will be held September 28, 2024 at 2 pm at First United Church in Swift Current.
