Edna Pauline (Lafrance) Fleury, age 87, passed away on September 18, 2025 at The Meadows long term care facility peacefully with family at her side. Edna was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, on October 31, 1937, and grew up in Dollard, Saskatchewan.
Edna is survived by her children: Dean (Brenda) Fleury, Lori (Michael) Jake; grandchildren: Brian (Christina) Fleury, Tyler (Shalayna) Fleury, Joshua Jake; great-grandchildren: Beau Fleury, Deacon Fleury, Barrett Fleury; sister Irene Zampese; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert Fleury; parents Paul and Delima (nee Julien) Lafrance; siblings: Lucille Beck, Jean Nolin, Blanche Lasante, and Yvonne Elmore.
She attended Nursing School at the Grey Nuns School of Nursing in Regina, and upon graduation moved to Shaunavon and worked as a Registered Nurse from 1959 – 1983. Edna Lafrance married Robert Fleury in Shaunavon on August 19, 1961. In 1983, they moved their family to Swift Current where she worked as an RN at the Palliser Long Term Care Home from 1983 – 1998.
Edna enjoyed reading, gardening, scrabble, cribbage, crossword and puzzles. She loved being around family and listening. She was the silent type with a good ear, and a gentle heart. She loved animals and when her grandchildren were young she would take them for walks and teach them to play checkers. As she aged, just watching her great-grandchildren and everyone’s pets made her smile.
Growing up, everyone would tell us how wonderful Edna was to them in the Emergency Room, Operating Room, or just a patient. They all felt very safe with her. She got along with everyone and I’m not sure anyone ever said anything derogatory towards her.
She was very quiet and was always with Bob (Dad) on any adventure he chose. Edna always supported and was Dad’s partner in all things. Whether travelling across Canada, flying to Hawaii, road trips across the US, or yard work/projects, camping/RV/buying the cabin at the lake, they would be laughing and Dad would be telling the stories and Mom telling Dad to hush…
As they aged, Mom became more the natural introvert that she was. She chose to stay closer to home. Dad would go on trips with his kids and grandkids. She always loved family visits and never expected or needed much. When Dad passed her world became a little smaller and she was happy to just have immediate family interact with her, and keep her safe and content. She did not like a lot of attention and lived under the radar. She was the silent strong type. We always knew she supported whatever we were doing. She instilled in us confidence, strength and family support and closeness.
Edna was just a lovely soul and we are all so much better people for having had her in our lives to teach us the art of listening, tolerance, and being content. In memory of Edna, donations to The Meadow Long Term Care Facility, or Swift Current S.P.C.A. would be appreciated by the family.
The memorial mass will be held on October 25, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. from Christ The Redeemer Catholic Church. The eulogy will be read by Brian Fleury and Tyler Fleury. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Fleury, Tyler Fleury, Joshua Jake, Beau Fleury, Deacon Fleury, and Michael Jake. Interment will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
