Edith Theresia George—Cote
It is with great sadness that the family of Edith Cote (nee George) announce her passing on October 8, 2025, at the age of 75.
Edith was born on February 26, 1950, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to parents Edwin and Margaret George. She grew up in several small towns in Saskatchewan and graduated from the Chaplin High School in 1968.
After graduating from school, Edith worked at several different jobs. She worked as a telephone operator for SaskTel in Regina, and also for NorthwestTel in Hay River, Northwest Territories. Edith eventually decided it was time for a change so she moved back to Swift Current, where her parents were living, and worked as a parts man at the Massey Ferguson dealership. Later, she also worked as a parts man at the Shaunavon branch where she remained for several years. As the farm machinery got bigger, the parts got heavier so Edith decided to move back to Swift Current where she worked as a parts man and service writer at the Toyota dealership.
Working at the Shaunavon Massey Ferguson dealership turned out to be a wise decision as this is where Edith met the love of her life, Philip. Being a strong independent woman, they enjoyed a long courtship and married on August 5, 1995. They made their home on the farm south of Admiral.
After a few years of married life, they decided to rent an apartment in Swift Current for the winter. Edith was in her glory when she got a job at the dog kennel Paws, Bed and Biscuit. She could tell you a story about every dog she looked after in the kennel. After a few years, they decided to give up their apartment and live fulltime at the farm. Edith continued to look after numerous cats in their home. Until recently, she always had a dog.
Edith enjoyed many activities with her best friend Philip, including travelling, camping, yardwork, farming, and especially visiting with family, friends, and neighbors. Edith loved spring when she was able to take out her numerous yard ornaments and her lights. Solar lights were all over her yard, and her exterior house lights matched the seasons.
Edith was always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors, and was always involved in the community in which she lived. She was a long time member of the Legion, and CWL. Having a strong faith, she was also a member of the Holy Family Parish in Admiral. She was often an altar server at Sunday masses, and dedicated a lot of time and energy holding various positions in the Parish Council. She was the current president of the Holy Family Parish in Admiral.
Edith is survived by her loving husband Philip; her siblings: Anne Whitlock, Rosemary Unger (Noel), Linda Barlow (David), and Allan George (Georgette). She will be cherished by the Cote family: Delores and Garry, Adrien and Colette, Lorraine and Pat. Her memory lives on with her nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents Edwin and Margaret George; parents-in-law Rosaire and Marianne Côté; brothers-in-law John Pickett, and Wayne Whitlock.
She will be forever missed by all those who knew her. Rest in peace Edith!
