Dorine Kreuger Obituary

Dorine Elaine Kreuger December 22, 1925 - August 29, 2021. After a wonderfully long life, it is with sadden hearts that we must say goodbye to Dorine Kreuger. Dorine passed away peacefully early Sunday morning (29/8) at Cypress House at the ripe old age of 95. Predeceased by her husband, Walter, Dorine will be greatly missed by their children, Derek Kreuger, Warren Kreuger, Colleen Middlemiss (Don) and Janet Strain (Chris), her grandchildren Erika, Rachel, Jordan, Hillary and Sarah; great grandchildren James, Sonia and Liam. She was the last surviving family member of nine of Alfred and Elna Nordstrom. Predeceased by her four sisters (Clara, Helen, Hattie and Betty) and four brothers (Albert, Arnold, Amies and Eldon). Dorine was born and raised in Canwood, Saskatchewan. She attended the Academy of Sion in Prince Albert and later Bedford Road Collegiate in Saskatoon. Upon completion of high school and a secretarial program, Dorine gained employment with a new group that later became known as the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic. During this time Dorine crossed paths with Walter Kreuger, her future husband. Dorine quit her job to care for her mother, Elna Nordstrom who was stricken with cancer at that time. Dorine and Walter were married on June 28, 1951. Walter and Dorine lived for a while in Wynyard and Broadacres, SK. Walter working for the CPR at that time. Derek, Warren, and Colleen were born during this period in Kerrobert. In 1959 the family moved to Stewart Valley via a short stint in Leinan. Janet was born in Swift Current in 1960. In Stewart Valley, Dorine was a village secretary for 26 years, a book keeper for the Eastside Telephone Company, a baby sitter and for 19 years, the village's postmistress. She retired in 1990 and with Walter, moved into the city. Dorine enjoyed spending time with her family, she was a great cook and baker, freshly made cakes and cookies were always near at hand. Cribbage, bowling, bingo, curling, reading and travelling were just a few of the many hobbies she had. Both Walter and her enjoyed bus trips touring Canada and the U.S. They also went to Europe and northern Africa. A tribute to her life was performed at 2:00 pm at Warren's Funeral Home on September 2, 2021 with Peggy Worrell officiating. The internment followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery and a reception was held at Janet and Chris' home in the city. The eulogy was written by the family and read by Warren Kreuger. A poem was read as well by Derek Kreuger. Pallbearers were Derek, Jim and Warren Kreuger, Don Middlemiss, Chris and Jordan Strain. She had a long and happy life, surrounded by family and friends. She was very active in community affairs and will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by those that knew her. The family would like to thank the staff of Cypress House for going above and beyond their call of duty... more so appreciated during these difficult times.
