Doreen Gilbertson

Doreen Gilbertson passed away peacefully at The Meadows in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on March 18, 2023 at the age of 88.  She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and staff of The Meadows.  Doreen was born on a farm near Success on April 4, 1934 to John and Mary Gerrie and was the youngest of 14 siblings.  She attended school at White Hall, Milton Hill, and Central.  She was raised in the Success area where she blossomed into a beautiful young woman who caught the eye of Major Gilbertson.  On August 29, 1952 they were wed and had four children: Clayton, Lorraine, Marlow, and Debbie.  They lived near St. Valley, Cadillac, and various places in Swift Current.  They bought a house on 13th Avenue SE in 1969 where they lived for 10 years until they moved to the farm at Leinan in 1969.  In 2019, she moved to the Meadows.  People always remembered her for her smile and willingness to help.  A stay at home mom, she loved all kids and could get along with all.  She was a fantastic cook and better baker, and spoiled us by making whatever we wanted like pies, cookies, and candy.    Doreen was widely known for her special recipes especially her chocolate brownies.  If you asked for the recipe her response was, "I don't know, I just throw in a little of this and a little of that and a lot of Love in them!"  Which she did, and they always came our perfect!  Our house was busy and full with all the neighbour kids whenever Mom cooked.  When we all went to work she started to work at the Imperial 400 until Dad got sick.  Family was most important for her and we are all the better for it.  Doreen is predeceased by her husband Major Gilbertson; her parents, and 13 siblings.  She is survived by one sister Annie; her children: Clayton, Lorraine, Marlow (Marie-Ange), and Debbie (Mike); her grandchildren Toni (Rob), Tyler (Meaghan), Carolyn (Travis), and Tammy; great grandchildren: Rydell, Kyrell, Destiny, Trey, Taylor, Jesse, and Kaylee.  A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles.  We would like to thank all the staff at the Meadows especially in House 15 for looking after her.  Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 1738 Quebec Ave., Unit 26, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9; or to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301 – 2550 12th Ave, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.  Arrangements entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home, for further information please call 1-306-773-8831 or 1-800-267-6606, or visit our website at www.warrensfuneralhome.com and express your sympathy to family members on the tribute wall.
