The memorial service will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Patti Sherk officiating. Her children and grandchildren will be her urn bearer.
Debbie is survived by her loving husband Gerry; children: Brett, Kurtis (Jessica), Steven (Holly), and Stacey; grandchildren: Kathryn, Krystin, Jarod, Breanna, Everett, Maleia, Alyssa, Riley, Raven, and Tristan; siblings: Shelly (George), Doug, Lois, Gerald, Mike (Jicel), Calvin, Judy (Jeff), Russ (Odette); and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Ruth Annetts; mother and father-in-law Yvonne and Maurice Desautels; sister-in-law Lisette Dubuc; nephew Karley Young.
Debbie was born in Oxbow, Saskatchewan on March 25, 1954. On November 18, 1972, Debbie married the love of her life Gerard Desautels at Cantal, Saskatchewan. After living in Alida, they moved a trailer out to Gerry’s land 4 miles NW of Alida, and spent many years establishing a farmyard out in the middle of a summer fallow field just across the road from Gerry’s mom and dad. Gerry also worked for Mobil Oil and got transferred to Swift Current in 1983, and they moved to an acreage outside of Swift Current. She worked hard her whole life to make a loving home for her husband and children.
Before Debbie was married, she worked weekends at the Alida Hotel waitressing, cooking, and cleaning rooms. During her school years, Debbie was active in 4-H, curling, she played hockey, and volunteered as a candy striper at the Oxbow Hospital.
She loved making blankets with her Yuma crew, and giving them to friends, family and donating to the Ronald McDonald House, and crocheting with her stitching group. She was never happier then when she was hosting family and friends for big meals. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and would often take them out for special treats. Her love of animals was passed down to her children and you could often find the house filled with many dogs, cats, birds, and a guinea pig. She loved animals so much she even took her guinea pig, Jack, camping despite Gerry’s sighs of disapproval.
Thank you to the Mankota and Herbert Care Homes for their excellent care, especially in Debbie’s final moments. Donations in Debbie’s memory to the Alzheimer Society, or to the Swift Current S.P.C.A. in lieu of flowers would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Warren’s Funeral Home.
