Dean Thomson

Dean Robert Thomson of Swift Current passed away peacefully at age 62 in Cypress Regional Hospital.  He is survived by his mother Lucille Thomson, father and mother-in-law Bernard and Lucille Sorensen, wife Karen, son Jason (Kaitlin) and grandchildren Jack and Stella, and daughter Janelle;  Sisters Lorie Buckingham, Lisa (Rob) Faucher and Dana Thomson; Brother-in-law Don (Vicki) Sorensen; Nieces and nephews Giles (Carla and son Tristan), Daniel (children Madden and Laken) and Jessamy Buckingham, Jordan (Josh and daughter Dani) Wiebe, Kyle, Kayla and Zachary McCallum, Jay and Steve (Dana) Peters, and their children; Aunts Faye Rister and Frances (Gordon) Schwartz, and numerous cousins and their families.  Dean is predeceased by his father Robert Thomson, aunt and uncle Marlene and Gordon Holderbein, uncle Delmar Rister and brother-in-law William Buckingham.  Dean was born in Swift Current where he lived for most of his life. He was a farmer in the Neidpath area and cherished the wide open spaces of the prairies. Dean married Karen, the love of his life, on September 30, 1978. They remained inseparable for the duration of their 42 year marriage.  During summer months they enjoyed camping and golfing, and took breaks from Saskatchewan winters travelling to warm destinations.  Dean's grandchildren lit up his life and there wasn't anything that was more important to him than family. One of his proudest accomplishments was his strong relationship with his children.  Dean was kind, caring, spoke with integrity and was the voice of reason. His love was limitless. Those who knew him were better off having had him in their lives. He will be deeply missed by many.  A celebration of his life will be held by the family at a later date.
