CHUCK YIM LEE
1925 – 2022
Chuck Lee passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Rockyview Hospital in Calgary from Covid complications on Friday, September 16th at the age of 96 years. Chuck is survived by his children: Gordon (Deb), Mae (Chris), Dave (Carol), Alan (Fiona); Grandchildren: Michelle (Carl), Joe (Cindy), Greg, Amanda (Tyler), Carrington (Robert); Great Grandchildren: Malia, Kiana, Luke, Emmett, Callum, Ellawyn, and Luna; Brothers: Jack, Dick, and Bill. He will be lovingly remembered by his friend Elsie, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 72 years, Marian who passed away in 2014, eldest son Joe Cue, brother Yim, and parents, Lam Lee and Yet Sen. Chuck was born in Gim Gai ( Golden Chicken) East Peace Village, China. At age 17, he married Marian in China, they had 2 sons, and they owned 2 rice shop general stores. At age 21, Chuck immigrated alone to Swift Current, Sask where he worked for his Dad, Lam Lee at Webster Heights grocery store and greenhouse. After 4 years, Marian along with their 2 sons immigrated to Swift Current, joining Chuck. Together once again, they had 3 more children. Chuck was a self-made entrepreneur, he owned and operated; Chuck’s Mobile Confectionary, Chuck’s Snappy Foodway (1964), Civic Shopping Centre(1969), Dairy King (1992), Augusta Mini Golf (1992), as well as revenue properties. Chuck’s hard work and wise business sense built a legacy that provided for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. A devout Christian, he was a member of the Chinese Alliance Church since 1963. He was a proud member of Lions Club for over 50 years. Chuck and Marian were fortunate enough to have travelled to 26 countries together. He said his most fulfilling trip was when our whole family travelled to China and visited their home villages in 2008. Chuck moved to Chinatown in Calgary in 2015 after his wife Marian passed away in 2014. At 96 years of age, he enjoyed cooking, attending church, socializing, visiting with family, lunch dates with friends, playing his musical instruments, shopping for groceries, Chuck checked the stock market he could add columns of numbers and foreign exchange in his head, playing ping pong, riding his exercise bike and walking the beautiful pathways of Prince’s Island Park along the Bow River. He enjoyed watching football, hockey, tennis and boxing on TV. Chuck had a genuine and caring interest in the lives of those he loved. He checked in with people often and knew what his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and extended family were doing. Chuck was mentally sharp and thoughtful of others even in his last days. He was a kind and generous man and will be missed by many. Our family would like to thank the staff of Clover Living in Calgary. With their support Chuck was able to enjoy a fulfilling and joyful life while maintaining his independence. He will be forever missed and cherished but never forgotten. Arrangements entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home.
