Charles Kirkpatrick Obituary

KIRKPATRICK, Charles Lawrence - July 15, 1932 - June 27, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Lawrence Kirkpatrick announce his passing on June 27, 2020.  Charles will be lovingly remembered by his wife  of 66 1/2 years, Rose, his children, Bob (Linda), Wendy (Rick) Gore-Hickman, Max (Kim) and Shelley (Rick) McEwen and his sister MaryAnn (Richard) Myren.  Charles was predeceased by his youngest son Douglas in 1974. Charles was blessed with 12 grandchildren:  Kim, Kara (Trent), Dallas (Jessy), Brett (Leah),  Kurt, Michael (Amanda), Sean, Tara (Cam), Blaire, Adam, Alex and Caitlin.  His life was also enriched with seven great grandchildren:  Wiley, Meisie, Liv, Ole, Tor, Paris  and Adelyn.  He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles was the second of three children born to Lorne and Mae Kirkpatrick on July 15, 1932.  He grew up on the farm  in the Gavrelle School District  near Cabri; he attended Gavrelle School and finished his education in Cabri.   In 1943 the family purchased a house in Cabri and lived there for the winter months, moving back to the farm each spring until 1946, when Cabri became their permanent residence. As a young teen he loved playing baseball and often pitched many innings for different teams.  After completing Grade 11, Charles quit high school to pursue his passion - farming.  He spent many years farming with his father Lorne, and later his sons Bob and Max, passing on the land to a fourth generation of Kirkpatricks.  Charles loved the land and nothing gave him more joy than walking through the fields to check the crops.
In 1953 he met the love of his life, Rose Gromniuk, a young nurse who had  recently moved to Cabri.  The two of them were married November 30, 1953 and enjoyed a wonderful lifetime together.  He and Rose were truly soul mates and best friends, and recently celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Charles was a charter member of the Cabri Lions Club, which was organized in 1959 and was a lifetime member of this organization.   As a proud member of this club he was very involved in the community of Cabri, which was his home for most of his life.   Prior to becoming a member of the Lions Club Charles was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge. Charles was very social and loved to visit with everyone he met.
He was an avid curler and shared this love with all his children, and in recent years was his son Max's biggest fan during bonspiels.
He enjoyed hunting and spent many early mornings in the goose pit or in the sand hills looking for prairie chickens.  As a sports fan he enjoyed watching golf, curling, baseball and football.
Charles and Rose perfected their golf game through many hours on the links in Kihei, Maui; where they were fortunate to enjoy over 30 winters. In their time at home, they were both long-standing members of the Elmwood Golf Club, as well as the Miry Creek Golf Course in Cabri.
They lived in Cabri for over 60 years before moving to Swift Current in the spring of 2019.
Charles enjoyed spending time with Rose and their children.  He was very generous and always enjoyed a game of cribbage with his grandchildren.
Charles touched the lives of many people over the years and had many wonderful friends.  He will be remembered always, and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
There will be a memorial service at a later date.
