Marie Therese Cecilia Riediger was born in Ponteix on June 1, 1954. The nuns were amazed that she was born with Big Dark Brown Eyes, which became something that she was known for for the remainder of her life. She was the second of 5 children born to Jake and Bernadette Riediger.
Cecilia was an energetic child and the apple of her Aunt Cecile Metevier’s eyes as she was Cecilia’s Godmother and took the role seriously, very seriously and spoilt her a lot with gifts and treats and she was about the only child of her generation that was invited to spend the night at Fred and Cecile’s house.
She started life speaking French and then had to learn English to go to school, once she started speaking English she never went back to speaking French, although she could understand it quite well. And she continued to swear in French for many many years!
She attended school at Lac Pelletier Village and then Admiral, and enjoyed sports much more that scholastic endeavours, even playing football with the ‘boys’ team but really enjoyed playing baseball. She was the ‘tough’ one of the Riediger kids, her dad’s helper with haying and horseback riding, and was always ready to work hard and play hard!
Dave and Cecilia were married in 1972 and lived in Lethbridge until the winter of 74/75 when they purchased the Studer farm from Harold Vance, which was their home base until they sold it in 2013. In 1982 they purchased the Riediger Ranch from her parents.
They raised their girls at the farm until 1989 when drought took its toll on the farming operation and they moved to Regina for 10 years coming back to the farm in 1999.
Cecilia was active in the community as a leader of the explorer group in Neville and 4-H leader in the Simmie 4H Club. She was also a Charter Member of the Simmie Kinette Club, and an RM Councillor for division 2 in the RM of Lac Pelletier #107.
A stellar homemaker, and cook, and gardener extraordinaire, she loved working in the orchard and looking after the farmstead where there was no end of work. Cecilia especially loved all aspects of nature, and the winters in Arizona where we had a special retreat. Trips to Europe, Hawaii and California were special treats as she was fascinated with the oceans. But her very special place was the cabin in the hills and the privacy it gave her.
In the last years of her life, she was affected by the behavioural variant of Fronto Temporal Dementia, and in January of 2023 became a resident of Cypress House in Swift Current, eventually being moved to the Meadows in February of 2025. The family is grateful to the staff of both homes for the compassionate care she received at both locations.
On December 6, 2025, Cecilia finally succumbed to the effects of the disease and passed peacefully away. She leaves to mourn her husband Dave Fiddler; Children: Jennifer, Marcia (Wayne Seimens), Krissy; seven Grandchildren: Paige (Travis) Rouse, Tyce (Shelby) Hattum, Brandon and Hailey Siemens, Klara, Charley and Keeley Edwards; Great Grandchildren: Tatum and Matteo Rouse, Kasen and Wyatt Hattum. She is also survived by her Mother Bernadette Riediger; sisters: Vivianne (Lorne) Davis, Roxanne (Coralie) Riediger, and brother Padget (Alvin) Riediger. She was predeceased by her Father Jake, Brother Glenn in infancy, and Aunt Cecile with whom she had a very special relationship, as well as many other aunts and uncles.
