Bill was predeceased by his parents: George and Agnes Keith; son Kelvin Keith; siblings: Alex Keith, and Effie (Reg Wright); sister and brother-in-laws: Annabelle (Charlie) Hood, Charlotone Murray, Elizabeth Murray, Fred (Emma) Murray, Rose Murray, Walter (Dot) Murray, Tommy Murray, Albert Murray, Charles (Muriel) Murray, Pearl (Glen) Jesse, Henry Murray, and Ken (Yvonne) Murray.
Bill was born on his Dads’ brothers farm at Mawer, Saskatchewan. His parents George and Agnes had immigrated from Scotland. Bill went to Fairy Lake School, just south of their home. He completed his grade 8 then started farming with several farmers, and worked for the PFRA digging in posts for 2 dollars a day with room and board. While going to Army Basic training in Regina, Saskatchewan, he met the love of his life Kathleen Murray. Bill was stationed in Claydon, England, and in Germany during World War II as a Mechanic, and fitter. In February 1947 he was discharged and he returned to Regina to the gal he left behind. After their marriage on June 14, 1947, Bill & Kay moved to Cadillac, Saskatchewan. They both worked at Begins Garage, and then the Cadillac Coop. They raised there 3 boys, Brian, Kelvin, and Garnet behind the counter at the Coop for 23 years. They later built a new home on their farm 6 miles south of Cadillac. Sadly their son Kelvin died in a car accident in 1973.
Bill loved farming, tending the land, cattle, yard, garden, and working in the shop. Many evenings they round and square danced, or played cards with family and friends. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He attended their hockey games, and dance recitals, and played many card games with them, or played hide go seek, school, hop scotch and building blocks. The Grandpa that Played! Dogs and cats were always Bill’s best friends. They travelled to many parts of Canada, U.S.A., Hawaii, Alaska, Scotland, and Germany. They enjoyed their cabin at Beaver Flat Resort. Retiring to Swift Current in 2001. Sadly Kay passed in 2012. He continued dancing a little, and maintaining his yard and home well into his late 90’s. In 2022, Bill moved to the Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home in Ponteix. Bill made many close friends while there. Joking and teasing with them all, both residences and care takers. He had the best of the best care there.
Bill had very hard-working hands, gliding dancing feet, and a heart filled with laughter, kindness and love! Always smiling. Always Happy. A life well lived!
Bill will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Memorial donations to the Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home in Ponteix, Saskatchewan would be appreciated by the family.
