Bill Gehl Obituary

William (Bill) Albert Gehl was born on December 10, 1930 and passed away on December 5, 2022 at the Prairie Health Care Centre in Cabri.  He was the seventh child born to Peter & Mary Gehl.  Dad grew up on the farm with his eight siblings; Max, Katherine, Elsie, Mary, Martha, Irene, Walter and Earl and is survived by two sisters Martha Mleziva and Irene Nybo and two of his brothers Walter (Myrna) Gehl and Earl (Lorna Gehl).  Dad attended Norfolk School and graduated from Hodgeville School.  He enjoyed rodeoing, playing ball and pool with his siblings and neighbors.  Dad loved the farm and and took over the home place in 1954.  Dad was a member of various organizations and was always willing to lend a hand in the community.  Dad married Doris Haubrich on October 25, 1954.  He continued grain farming and raising cattle. Dad was a very hard worker who provided well for his growing family.  Howard was born in 1955, Elaine in 1956, Richard in 1958, Kathy in 1960 and Blair in 1962. Dad was predeceased by his son Richard Gehl in 2018.  s survived by his children and their spouses; Howard (Linda) Gehl, Elaine (Ron) Glassford, Myrna Gehl (Mert Taylor), Kathy Gehl (Ernie Wagner) and Blair (Lucy) Gehl. Dad is survived by his brother-in-law Gerald (Beatrice) Haubrich and sister-in-law Linda Mortensen (Dave Peters).  Dad and Mom spent the winters in Mesa Arizona for many years.  Dad especially enjoyed playing ball with the View Point Amigos’ ball team and playing pool, cards, bowling, happy hours, dancing and visiting.  In the spring he couldn’t wait to get back out to the farm and looked forward to helping with seeding and harvest.  Dad and Mom moved into Hodgeville in 1978.  Soon the grandchildren began to arrive.  They had 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; Amy (Garrett) Badger [Mason, Cole]; Melissa (Drew) Loberg [Jordyn, Jace]; Stephanie (Brooke) Christianson [Avery, Maddox]; Courtney(Darcy) Schroeder [Harper, Molly]; Lana (Farron) Nernberg [Hudson, Abbotte, Atticus, Bennet], Tammy (Chad) Desrosiers [Trenton, Everett, Brynlee, Brielle], Jesika Gehl (Reagan Poppl) [Kane, Nash]; Amanda (Ryan) Bernesky [Brandon, Bode]; Taylor Gehl; Danielle Hagel (Byron Murray), Mitchell (Kennedy) Hagel; Jennifer Gehl de Laforest (Linette) [Lexie,Charlie]; Devin (Kelly) Gehl [Beckett, Tucker].  Dad was predeceased by his wife Doris in 2008.  Dad married Anne Charpentier on November 10, 2010 and they resided in Castor, AB.  They enjoyed traveling and Dad enjoyed playing pool and cribbage in Castor.  He enjoyed visiting with Anne’s children Robert, Roland, Kathy, Laurie, Teckla and Jackie, their spouses and Anne’s grandchildren.  Anne’s family treated Dad like gold.  Elaine and Kathy travelled several times a year to Castor to visit.  Dad loved playing cards, cribbage, whist and low card rummy.  Unfortunately, on one of his many visits to Saskatchewan he suffered a stroke.  Dad was moved to a centralized location at the Care Home in Cabri, SK.  Kathy spent many, many hours with Dad and we are so thankful for all she did for him.  Dad contracted COVID on Nov 10, 2022 and recovered from it.  Unfortunately, due to his progression of dementia and deterioration of health he passed away five days before his 92nd birthday.  He will truly be missed by everyone and we will cherish his memory forever.  He is survived by his wife Anne.  The family would like to thank the staff at the Prairie Health Care Centre that went above and beyond in taking care of Dad.  Arrangements entrusted to Warren’s Funeral Home.
