Betty Satter Obituary

Betty Louise Satter (née Kinnee)
June 16, 1947 – December 23, 2025

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Betty Louise Satter (née Kinnee), who left us suddenly on December 23, 2025, at the age of 78. At her request, a Gathering will be held in Swift Current. The plan is for early March 2026. Details will be announced in the coming month.

On June 16, 1947, in Ponteix Saskatchewan, Betty along with her twin sister June, were the firstborns to Jim and Salome Kinnee and were raised on the Crichton farm and later in Cadillac. The twins were a rare novelty for this time and brought delight to the community. Betty attended grade school in Cadillac and graduated high school in Ponteix. She made lifelong friendships and had many good times with her girlfriends. Long after graduation, their annual camping trip was a highlight—full of laughter, shared memories and stories of the crazy times they had lived through together.

After graduating, Betty moved to Swift Current and worked 45 years at the Palliser Regional Care Centre. She cared deeply for the residents and her co‑workers (who also became lifelong friends), filling each day with meaningful visits, playful teasing and tons of laughter. She enjoyed getting together with her Palliser friends long after retirement.
For many years, Betty lived with her best friend Dolores Scansen (often mistaken as sisters). They worked hard, spent time visiting with friends, tootled around and had much fun together. They shared daily phone calls filled with reminiscing.

On January 22, 1969, Betty’s life changed forever when she became a mother to her daughter, Jimmi‑Lynn. On September 2, 1989, Betty married Hal Satter and was fortunate to gain two bonus daughters, Pam and Michelle. Hal and Betty loved to eat out, make trips to “see the kids” and were even fortunate to have an amazing trip to Mexico.
The holidays were filled with great food and plenty of laughter. Betty was fiercely proud of her family, her daughters, her siblings, her nieces and nephews and especially the successes of her grandchildren.

Betty loved all animals except mice (and anything that looked like one). Over the years, she had numerous cats, dogs and even a bunny as a pet.  She especially adored her dog, Charlie. She was very creative and tried every trending craft (ceramics, sewing, upholstering, macramé, decoupage, crochet). She was an amazing cook and could whip up something out of nothing with fearless abandon. She enjoyed reading magazines, the newspaper and cookbooks as well as watching curling, figure skating, good dramas and funny movies (Uncle Buck). She loved to browse stores and could do so for hours. She delighted in warm breezes, pink sunsets, clear nights with lots of stars, full moons, frost on trees, Christmas lights, random drives, parades, soft ice cream, red cardinals and country/old-time songs.

Betty lived with a strong sense of independence and was not afraid to say what she believed. She was no nonsense when she needed to be and followed up with lots of love. Her heart was always with the underdog and she championed fairness and the rights of those who needed it most.  She was lighthearted, silly and often scattered.   She always believed that “things will work out”. She was awesome!

Betty is survived by her husband Hal Satter, her daughter Jimmi-Lynn (Brian) Thomson, stepdaughters Pam (Kevin) Jess and Michelle (Dana) Satter, her siblings Judy (Marcel) Folk, Wes (Debbie) Kinnee, Marilyn (Clem) Therrien and brother-in-law Jack Hattum, her grandchildren Alex Thomson, Theo Thomson, Riley North, Talen Hoover and Tevryn Hoover, her special friends Dolores Scansen and Shirley Sherman plus numerous nieces and nephews along with their children.

She was predeceased by parents Kenneth “Jim” Kinnee (1960) and Salome Kinnee/Zaremba (2019), step-father Alf Zaremba (1997), twin sister June Hattum (2016), brother Barry Kinnee (1952) and parents-in-law Bud (2021) and Jean Satter (2025).

A special thank you to Shirley Sherman for supporting Betty in so many ways and the daily/weekly calls.

A heartfelt thank‑you to the amazing caregivers at Autumn House in Gull Lake. She spoke highly of the kindness you showed her and cherished the connections she made with you. Betty was building beautiful new friendships with residents and staff alike and you helped make her last days some of her brightest in a long time. She especially enjoyed the live music and pet therapy.
