Bessie Jeffrey Obituary

Bessie Jeffrey passed away in the early hours of June 27th, 2023 at the age of 99.  Bessie Ann was born on January 30, 1924 to John and Annie Dixon in Carievale, Saskatchewan.  She was the third oldest of ten children.  Bessie had hoped to become a nurse for as long as she could remember, but after finishing school, she headed out on a train to start a profession in teaching.  After teaching for a couple of years, she had saved enough money to pursue her career in nursing.  She attended nurse’s training at the Regina General Hospital in 1946; graduating as an RN in 1949.  In the Fall of 1949 she got a posting at the hospital in Herbert, Saskatchewan.  It was in Herbert that she met Wylie Jeffrey.  Wylie and Bessie were married in Moose Jaw in 1950 and then resided on the farm south of Herbert.  This is where they raised their five children.  Bessie continued her nursing career until her retirement in 1989.  After her retirement she enjoyed several wonderful trips with friends and family.  In 1996 she moved to Swift Current , becoming a long term resident at the Prairie View Lodge and became quite involved in the many groups and activities over her many years there and would enjoy many hours of visiting and puzzling with friends.  Bessie is survived by three sons: Jim (Rosemary), Craig (Sharon), and Mark (Diane), and her daughter Joanne (Marvin) Stumpf; grandchildren and great grandchildren Tracy and Kenny (McKenna, Maguire), Erin and Wes (Matthew, Emma, Haley, Danae), Jeff and Kristin (Joshua, Ethan, Caden, Noah, Abby), Jennifer and Caleb (Hugh), Devin, Justin (Cody, Deja),  Stephanie and Troy, Jason, and Murray’s daughter Nicole.  Bessie was predeceased by her husband Wylie, son Boyd, daughter in-law Marilyn, and grandson Murray, as well as numerous extended family and friends.  Mom, grandma, great grandma never let life sway her strength and resilience.  Her strong will was an inspiration for many to follow as she made her dreams and aspirations into reality.  We are all better for knowing and loving you.  We will miss your stern voice when you didn’t agree with something and the warm words of wisdom when you did.  You have left us all with respect and admiration for all you taught us. We love you!  A graveside service for Bessie was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery July 3rd, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Linda Stumpf officiating.  Arrangements entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home.  For further information please call 1-306-773-8831 or 1-800-267-6606, or visit our website at www.warrensfuneralhome.com and express your sympathy to family members on the tribute wall.
