Bertha Hopfauf Obituary

Hopfauf: Bertha Eileen Hopfauf (Nee: Getz), age 76, of Lancer, SK passed away December 16, 2019 at the Meadows in Swift Current. The Memorial Service was held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 18, 2020 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Deacon David Hagel officiating. The organist and soloist was Gerry Getz. The Life Tribute was given by Brad Hopfauf. The readers were Russell Green and A. J. Hopfauf. The ushers were Doug Getz and Daniel Getz Jr. The Honorary Pallbearers were all of her grandchildren. The Interment Service took place at the Lancer Community Cemetery. Bertha is survived by her husband, Ben of 57 years, son, Brad (Sharon) Hopfauf; daughter, Bernadette (Garth) Green; daughter, Belinda (Steve) Hurlbert; grandchildren, A.J., Carly (Nathan) and their daughter Ava, Dustin (Torina) and their daughter Maren, Kellie (Brandon), Russell (Matt), Nikolaus and Kailey; her brothers, John, Valentine (Doreen), Louis (Ilene), and Daniel (Adele); her sisters, Annie and Barbara; brother-in-law, Keith; sisters-in-law, Rosella, Betty B, Betty H, and Marlene. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Martha Getz; brother, Peter; sisters, Helen, Margaret, Mary, Anna Maria and Rachel; brothers-in-law, Ben, Roy Howie, Armand, Alex, Frank, Peter, Tony, John and Al; sisters-in-law, Kay, Irene, Agnes and Mary. Bertha was born at Cabri, SK on January 19, 1943. She attended school in Lancer and Abbey. She married Ben Hopfauf at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lancer on July 17, 1962. Bertha worked as the Postmaster at Lancer Post Office and the Secretary/Treasurer for the Village of Lancer for many years. Bertha was involved many high school sports activities, track, curling and softball. She coached the Lancer Softball team for years. She was involved with the C.W.L, as committee organizer for the Lancer Chokecherry Festival from the inception until her stroke. Bertha received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal Award in 2012 for her many hours of volunteer work. Bertha loved to sew and make quilts, collecting coins and stamps and would cut and style hair for the family and friends. She had numerous dogs and cats, as she had a deep love of animals and she also loved to travel with family and friends. Bertha will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends.
