Arnold was born in Dryden, Ontario, the family moved to Webb, Saskatchewan when he was 5. Arnold always worked, doing lots of chores at home while his Dad worked away from home. Arnold worked part time at the store in Webb until he joined his Dad's work crew, building and repairing grain elevators at the age of 15. He started with Federal Grain, and became a foreman of his own crew before he was 20. When Federal Grain sold in 1972, he started working for United Grain Growers. In the late 70's, he collaborated with family, forming J-Wag construction and contracted work with Pioneer Grain until wooden grain elevators became obsolete. Arnold did seasonal work for Dwight Small, building houses and general contracting. He started as a janitor at the Post Office in Swift Current until he was hired on a letter carrier. He retired from the Post Office in 2007.
In life he enjoyed travelling, twice to England, many trips to Disneyland, and once to Hawaii. Arnold made friends wherever he went. He collected John Wayne anything and had a lifelong passion for trains. Arnold did odd jobs and lots of volunteering until the advancing brain disorder Progressive Supraneuclear Palsy (PSP) made it too difficult to continue. He moved to the Meadows in 2022, where he received wonderful care.
