Arlene Jeanette Olson (nee Austring) was gently carried away into the arms of Jesus while in her sleep on May 21, 2024, with family at her bedside. Arlene was the second eldest born to Ole and Alvina Austring on August 20, 1938 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. With ten children, and two sets of twins, Arlene quickly became like another mother to many of her siblings. However, at a young age Arlene quickly learnt that her father loved the piano and taught herself to play. After attending school at Stewart Valley, she met her husband, Burnette, through friends of the family. They were married on March 16, 1957, and barely spent a day apart in their 67 years together. Tragedy struck when they lost their first-born son, Lyle, but were then blessed with 5 beautiful children: Donna, Beryl, Nancy, Rodney, and Paul – and that was when their adventure began. Arlene worked various jobs throughout her life in the kitchen and laundry at the Swift Current Hospital, and in various nursing homes around the city. Her most prideful job was being the pianist for any and all churches and funerals around the area. Arlene was a great woman of faith and took great pride in helping the community. There was rarely a day that the coffee wasn’t on and their house wasn’t full of people. If Arlene wasn’t playing the piano, she could be found browsing garage sales, visiting with the sick and elderly, or at the Co-op for coffee – often with multiple grandchildren in tow. Arlene’s family celebrates and rejoices knowing the reunion in Heaven with many loved ones, especially her beloved husband. Arlene is survived by her loving children: Donna Borstmayer, Beryl (Rod) Ljunggren, Nancy (Wesley) Popoff, Paul Olson; grandchildren: Rob, Stacy (Luke), Krissy, Tyson (Kimberly), Jorrie (Sean), Dylan (Justine), Michael (Janessa), Becky (Mike), Tanya, Amanda (Brad), Shawna, 20 great children; her siblings: Marie, Oriole (Don), Wayne, Diane (Wilmer), Dorothy, Glen, Joanne, and Jerome (Eva). Arlene is predeceased by her husband Burnette, her two sons Lyle and Rodney, her parents Ole and Alvina Austring, her parent-in-laws Benny and Alma Olson, her sister Juverna, granddaughter Tara, her in-laws Johnny and Gayle, Hazel (Johnny), Orville (Marie), and Vern (Shirley). Arrangements entrusted to Warren’s Funeral Home.
