Anna Sekerak

It is with great sadness and very much love that we mourn the passing of Anna Sekerak of Swift Current, SK on February 26, 2022 at the age of 90. She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her family: her son Milan (Deb) Sekerak, Kari (Granddaughter) and Clayton Stenson, Sam and Gabe Stenson (great grandsons), Lindsey Sekerak (Granddaughter), Derek Sekerak (Grandson) and Jordi Sekerak (Rosie and Leo Sutton) and new great grandson Rhys Oakley Sekerak and Kim Selinger (Granddaughter). Anna was predeceased by her husband Martin, sons Martin Jr. and Joseph and infant daughter Annie. Anna was born in a small village Zakopcie, Slovakia. She went to school and University and eventually becoming a Policewoman. She fled the communist country at the age of 21 (read more of her story on the Tribute Wall). Anna  worked over the years in Swift Current as a cook in The Voyager Restaurant and then ended her career at The Modern Cafe. Anna was a beautiful soul who was friendly and loving to all. She cherished and treasured her family and always welcomed them with a smile and big hug. Anyone who knew Anna soon realized she was a fiercely strong, independent individual. This strength and independence came from many of her life experiences and adversaries she faced in leaving her family and her home country Slovakia at a very young age to make a new life in Canada. Anna spoke of her life with honesty, sadness and great sorrow. She grieved all her losses in her life with sincerity. The News and events occurring recently in Ukraine worried and saddened Anna as she understood and felt the pain that those people are going through. She knew as these events were similar to her life journey. Part of Anna's life was told and reported in the Prairie Post, in 2002. In honour of our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and for all those who are affected by these sad times in Ukraine and throughout the world we her family would like to re share her story. As per Anna's wishes a private family service will take place at a later date. Donation's in Anna's memory may be made to the Swift Current S.P.C.A. P.O. Box 1163 Swift Current, SK S9H 3X3.Arrangements entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home.
