Alwyne Carleton Obituary

CARLETON, Alwyne Rae June 6, 1928 - April 27, 2021.It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Wife, Mom, Grandma, GG Ma, Sister, Sister-in-law, Cousin and Aunt, Alwyne Rae Carleton, on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.  Alwyne was born in Swift Current on June 6, 1928 to Michael and Dorthea Geary, the eldest daughter in a family of three girls.  Mom attended Central School and graduated from Beatty Collegiate.  She worked at the Creamery for many years.  Alwyne married Elmer John Carleton on June 5, 1950 and they celebrated 70 years of marriage.  No easy feat and a most remarkable accomplishment.  Together they worked on the family farm.  Mom would make meals and deliver them to the field to Dad - morning coffee break, dinner, afternoon coffee break, supper and then an evening coffee break.  She was an excellent cook and many meals were enjoyed on the back of the tailgate of the truck.  Mom enjoyed gardening and whether at the farm, lake or town, her flower and vegetable gardens flourished.  Mom was kept busy planting trees around the perimeter of the farmyard, when the PFRA at Indian Head offered trees for windbreak shelters.  Many of those trees are still standing today.  Mom loved playing cards, working on crossword puzzles, playing the piano, spending time at the lake, doing paint by number pictures, watching curling, Coronation Street, and listening to Roger Whittaker and Rod Stewart music.  She always had a smile, positive attitude and was an inspiration to all of us.  She was so generous, kind and always there for us.  Alwyne's pride and joy was her family whom she treasured and loved.  Mom always enjoyed visiting with family and friends.  In recent years, mom's days were always brightened by visits from Donna Bourgoin, Bob Dahl, and Cheryl and Harvey Nybo, and many others.  Alwyne is survived by her husband of 70 years Elmer Carleton; daughter: Elaine (Bob) Henderson; sons: Ken (Glenda), Terry (Bev), John (Shannon); grandson Bobby (Christina) Henderson; granddaughters: Amy (David) Grey, Nicole Carleton, Regan (Richard) Helfrich, Tiffany Carleton and Trisha Carleton; great granddaughters: Madison, Avery and Harper Grey, Halea and Nola Henderson; great grandsons: Austin and Aiden Helfrich.  She is also survived by her sister Denice LaRose and sisters-in-law June Wiskar and June Carleton.  As well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Predeceased by her parents Michael and Dorthea Geary, Elmer's parents John and Alice Carleton, sister Marcia Klause, sisters-in-law Doreen Hussey and Gladys Carleton; brothers-in-law Cloyd Hussey, Melvin Carleton, Orin LaRose, Albert Carleton, Cy Wiskar, and Walt Klause.  Mom will be missed but her spirit and love of family lives on in the legacy of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  The family would like to thank all Mom's care givers and staff at Cypress House for their compassion, love and grace.  You were Mom's second family.  A private family service will be held on May 6, 2021.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 1738 Quebec Ave., Unit 26, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan S7K 1V9, would be appreciated by the family.  We love you and will miss you, Mom.  Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.  For further information please call 306-773-8831, or visit our website at www.warrensfuneralhome.com, and express your sympathy to the family on our tribute wall.
