Alexander Hattum Obituary

HATTUM: Alexander age 87 of Swift Current, SK passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at The Meadows. Alec is survived by two sons, one daughter-in-law, one grandson, one brother, one sister and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, wife, numerous brothers, sisters, brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as numerous nephews and one niece. Alec was born on the home quarter North of Governor, SK of the family farm sometime during the harvest in the fall of 1933. He was registered on the next trip to town, December 14, 1933, and that became his birthday. He was one of 12 children born to Syrian Lebanese immigrants. He spent his early years tending the orchard and working on the family farm in the Neville area just north of Governor, SK. He attended Orville School in the Neville area until grade 10 and then worked on the farm full time. He met his future wife M. Joyce Robertson at Lac Pelletier in the summer of 1965 and they were married in Regina, SK on August 14, 1965. Together they raised two sons on their own farm/ranch South of Lac Pelletier. Alec received his learners pilot licence and ground training in 1980. He and Joyce were members of the Flying Farmers Association and met numerous life long friends. Alec's love of horses earned him a championship saddle from a local rodeo and an old neighbor commented that "he'd never seen anyone sit a horse" like Alec could. Alec and Joyce continued to farm until their retirement in 2006 and settled in Swift Current. Alec remained in his home after Joyce's passing and 2017 and had just recently moved to The Meadows Long Term Care Centre in Swift Current and enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting.
