Al Sulz

Sulz, Albert William “Al” passed away peacefully at 92 years of age on Tuesday morning, October 18, 2022 at The Meadows, Swift Current, SK.  Al was born to Emil & Mary Sulz in Golden Prairie, SK on August 15, 1930.  Predeceased by his sister, Winnifred Brusky, he leaves to mourn his wife of 67 years, Irene (nee Wyper), his daughters, Linda Sulz (Regina), and Rhonda (Ross) Barclay (Ottawa), and their 3 daughters, Lauren, Jill & Olivia.  After working as the municipal secretary in Golden Prairie, they moved to Swift Current in 1967 where Al worked at the Pioneer Credit Union, initially as loans manager, retiring in 1987 as Manager of the Southside Branch.  His early retirement allowed them to increase their vacation time in the Palm Springs area, though always leaving after Christmas so they could be with family.  In California, they made many wonderful lifetime friends with whom they enjoyed golf, dancing, and many happy hours.  Besides golf and duplicate bridge, after retiring Al took over the cooking for many years, often replicating the meals he grew up with, including making noodles.  His raisin pie was also in high demand!  He did, however, leave the cleaning (and closing the cupboard doors) to Irene, who fortunately didn’t seem to mind.  In 2016, they moved out of their home of 49 years on Laurier Drive to the Riverview Village Estates.  While there, he enjoyed Monday night Bingo and Wednesday night dancing for which they received many compliments.  In the Spring 2020, Al was moved to The Meadows long-term care facility due to progressing vascular dementia.  It was a very difficult time for him and his family, made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions at the time.  The family appreciates the care provided by The Meadows staff as it was a difficult period for them as well.  A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the Great Room at the Riverview Village Estates, 1101 2nd Ave SE, Swift Current, SK.  Those wishing to do so, may make a donation in Al’s name to The Meadows Auxiliary - Bus Fund c/o Eleanor Forge Secretary/Treasurer 308 - 230 Lister Kay Cres, Swift Current, SK S9H 0A1, or to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan (alzheimers.ca/sk/).  Thanks to Warren’s Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK for assisting with the arrangements.  For further information please call 1-306-773-8831 or 1-800-267-6606, or visit our website at www.warrensfuneralhome.com and express your sympathy to family members on the tribute wall.
