Abe Hattum: The equipment has stopped and all the animals went quiet, when dad passed away September 8, 2020 at The Meadows. Dad was born June 25, 1932 by midwife on the homeplace, N 1/2 25 10 13 W3rd. He was the 8th child born to Albert and Sadie (Omar) Hattum. Dad attended Orwell School (a one room school 3 miles away), graduating from Neville school. At the age of 18, Dad left home for the first time to work: welding, and on the pipeline and building a bridge; all across Canada. Mixed farming was in his blood. He returned to the farm. He found his life partner and on July 6, 1962, Dad married the love of his life, Edna Giesbrecht, in the United Church. They did everything together! Their greatest accomplishments were their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They celebrated 50 years of marriage. In 2013, Dad suffered a hard blow, losing the love of his life, Edna. He stayed on the farm and learned to cook and clean for himself. He then made a major life change, moving to the city, eventually residing in The Meadows. Dad took welding and mechanics courses. He joined a gun club, drove bus for a while and was involved in whist drives. Dad collected guns, Elvis memorabilia and John Deere collectibles. Dad was a workaholic willing to help anyone. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife, Edna; his son-in-law, Baron; his parents and numerous brothers, sisters and in laws. He is lovingly remembered by Albert Hattum, Shelley Hildebrand, Tanya Elston, Tracy Hattum, and families; siblings, Bertha, Alex and Jack as well as Edna's siblings. To all my family, "Good Enough."
