William Gotzman

Mr. William Gotzman, age 95 of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, passed away January 26, 2019 in Leader, SK. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on February 2, 2019, from St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Swift Current with Pastor Linda Hall officiating. The organist was Alrie Neufeld and the ushers was Dave Geiesbrecht and Dale Pearson. The pallbearers were Fred Berg, Darrel Berg, Adam Berg and Scott Undseth. An Honor Guard was formed by members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 56. The interment took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Swift Current. William is survived several cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Maimo; his parents, Gust in 1959, Olga in 1994, and sister Marta in 1969. William was born in Elow, Poland on May 4, 1923 to his German parents. He immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1929. They settled in the Shackleton area, where he attended school. From there, he joined the RCAF in 1942. He loved aircraft and made it a career for 26 years. He married Maimo Kervis in Trenton, Ontario on the 26th of November, 1949. From 1969 to 1965 he worked in Europe with the NATO forces. He retired from the RCAF in Cold Lake, AB in 1967, took over the family farm for seven years, and then retired and lived in Swift Current. Bill and Maimo loved travelling and had been back twice to Europe, visiting his wife's birth country, Estonia, and many more European countries, including his NATO air base in Zweibrucken, Germany. In the winter, he spent the month of March in Victoria, BC. William will be sadly missed by family and friends.
