Phyllis Beach

Beach; Gertrude Phyllis Beach (nee Whitney) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Maple Creek Long Term Care Home on March 21 at the age of 96. Phyllis is survived by her 3 daughters, Starla, Gaylene (Garry) and Marina, eight (8) grandchildren and eleven (11) great grandchildren, as well as her brother Harvey. She was predeceased by her husband Norman and grandson Duane. Phyllis was born at Loreburn, Saskatchewan on January 23, 1923 where her father was teaching at the time. They later moved to Francis when Phyllis was 7. After attending normal school in Regina, Phyllis eventually went to Ernfold to teach where she met her future husband Norman Beach with whom she spent 71 happy years. Phyllis was very involved in music her whole life while living in Ernfold. She taught piano for 18 years as well as played in church at Ernfold and Morse for a number of years. Phyllis belonged to the Red Cross, Home and School, Ladies Aid, Cemetery Association and Eastern Star. She and Norman enjoyed many years of square dancing as well. After retiring to Swift Current, she became involved in a group of 4 ladies known as "The Entertainers" who put on programs for various senior homes in and around the city. She was also an active member of the Stamp Club and led the choir at Swift Current Seniors Centre. The family wishes to thank the staff at Prairie Meadows in Maple Creek for their loving care of both Mom and Dad.
