Orvel Salberg

Salberg; Orvel Clayton Salberg, age 86, of Swift Current, passed away Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019 at Clover House, Swift Current, Sk, with his loving wife Marita by his side. The Memorial Service was held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 25, 2019 from Christ the Redeemer Church with Msgr. Reymundo Asis officiating. The pianist was Marlene Dolter. The Urn Bearers were Tyson Wall, Luke Wall and Liam Salberg. Eulogist was Linda Houston-Salberg. The readers were Maura Salberg-Griffith and Bill Shumay. The Honorary Pallbearers were members of Christ the Redeemer Parish, where Orvel was a faithful member. The Interment Service was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Orvel is survived by his wife, Marita; children, Chris (Charlynne), Kay (Alan), Jeff (Linda), Marty (Sandy) and Maura; grandchildren, Carly (Dean) Tank, Corey (Dwight) Wenzel, Tyson Wall, Jaycee (Erik) Genoway, Luke Wall, Alexa (Matt) Dowden, Regan Salberg (Brendan Schwan), Liam Salberg, Jordyn Salberg and Ali Griffith; five great grandchildren; sister, Audrey McLeod and nine treasured nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Christian Salberg, mother Marie (Askeland) Salberg, a brother in infancy and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Ralph and Eva Brennen. Orvel was born on April 27, 1932 in Fort St. John, B.C. He married Marita Brennen on October 8, 1956 in Hazenmore, Sk. Orvel worked for 37 years for the Canadian Pacific Railway as an agent and telegrapher. He was an outdoor lover; he put many miles on his bicycle and walked every day around his neighbourhood. Winter found him on the beloved ski slopes with his family, or heading south with Marita to enjoy a warmer climate. Orvel was an avid Roughriders fan through thick and thin. He was a car enthusiast and took great delight in fussing with his vehicles. He loved to sit in the sunshine and count his blessings. Over the years, Orvel cherished many gatherings with his family-- his grandkids were the light of his life.
