Mary Lorraine Mortensen Obituary

Mary Lorraine Mortensen 1932 - 2019
Lorraine passed away peacefully on September 24th at her home in Swift Current at the age of 87. Lorraine was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly
missed by all. Lorraine was born April 7th, 1932 to Cliff and Mary Schriver in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. She attended and graduated school in Gull Lake and later obtained a Teacher's Certificate.
She was predeceased by husband Harold Dean, son Michael George, father Cliff Schriver, mother Mary Wilson and stepfather Ken Wilson, father-in-law Claritt and mother-in-law Mary
Mortensen, brother-in-law Howard "Bud" Mortensen and sister-in-law Irene Mortensen, and brother-in-law Art Carlson. She is survived by sons Rick and his children Toni (Lonnie Holt and Arissa) and Travis; Randy (Paige) and their children Leah (Mitchell Japp and Logan, Maryn, Esmae) and Derek (Carolyn and Norah); and Ted (Tanya) and their children Dylan and Madison; grandson Reggie (children Megan and Tyler); daughter-in-law Linda Mortensen (Dave Peters); sister-in-law Karen Carlson and numerous nieces and nephews. After they were married Lorraine and Dean lived in Swift Current until 1959 when they took over her grandparents' (George and Blanche Dunmire) farm near Antelope Lake. Lorraine raised four boys and worked hard on the farm with the livestock and grain. In 1966 Arrowhead Lodge was established on the shore of Antelope Lake and many favourite memories of summer weekends with family and friends were made. Family was important and Lorraine hosted many family gatherings. She also enjoyed many hobbies and crafts including scrapbooking, knitting, card making and quilting. Card games were also a favourite and she and Dean would "play for a quarter" most evenings. She was also involved in the community as a Scout Leader and member of the Royal Purple, Women's Institute (Homemakers), Chamber of Commerce and Gull Lake and District Old-timers. In 1987 they built a house in Gull Lake and lived there until 2012 when they moved to Riverview
Village Estates in Swift Current. Starting in 1998, for 14 years, they travelled to Yuma AZ during the winter. At Riverview, Lorraine enjoyed participating in the various social events and was known for her friendly nature. Although deteriorating health slowed her, she was always cheerful and had a big smile. She enjoyed watching sunrise, the view of the land and lake from the farm and drinking coffee on their deck at Riverview. She loved all things purple. She will be missed. There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends Saturday November 9, 2019 2:00 PM at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 108 2nd Ave. N.E., Swift Current, SK S9H 2C7.
