Kathleen "Kay" Gaunt Obituary

GAUNT: Mary Kathleen "Kay" age 97 of Pennant, SK passed away on May 1, 2019 at the Prairie Health Care Centre in Cabri, SK. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 from St. Stephen's Anglican Church with Reverend Chris Dowdeswell officiating. The pianist was Amy Wiens, ushers were Paul Rogg and Dean Garrett and pallbearers were Dave Dowdeswell, Richard Bye, Andy Shirkie, Doug Graham, Michael Dickie, Hugh Williams. The interment service was held from Pennant Cemetery. Kay is survived by her children Robert (Laurie), Judy Shilmar, and Jim (Pam); grandchildren Jennifer (Jason) Dowdeswell, Ryan Gaunt, Brad Gaunt, Dustin Gaunt and Taylor Shilmar; great grandchildren Kaylee, Cole and Emma Dowdeswell; nieces and nephews Ralph (Mary) James, Linda (Randall) Bryden, Ellen (Don) Rutherford, Raymond (Marnie) James, Johan (Trilly) Heynike, Kirsten (Barry) Jensen,John (Glenys) Heynike and Daniel (Helen) Heynike. She is predeceased by her parents Matthew Charles Cook James and Audrey May (nee Cropper) James, husband Daniel "Bunty" Buntin Gaunt Jr.; brothers Robert Bernhard and Charles William "Bill" (Alice) James; sisters-in-law Isobel "Winkie" and Alexis "Lex" Heynike; grandparents William Cropper and Anna Koch; and granddaughter Zelda Shilmar. Kay was born on May 6, 1921, and she attended Elmwood School for her early grades until she graduated SCCI High School. She then took a commercial course in business and accounting in Swift Current at Central School. She was united in marriage with Daniel "Bunty" Buntin Gaunt Jr. on February 10, 1948 at St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Swift Current, SK. She worked at the Royal Bank as an accountant and head teller, then on the farm with her husband. Kay was a member of the Anglican Church Women, United Church Women, Eastern Star and Pennant Seniors Club. Family always came first for Kay, and she also had many interests, Church, flowers and flower arranging, farming, singing, playing piano, baseball, figure skating, hockey, basketball, quilting, sewing, curling, music, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, golfing, old black and white movies as well as a dedicated member of her community. Kay loved her family unconditionally. She was kind, caring, thoughtful, with a strong work ethic who was patient, giving and reserved. She was honest with a keen sense of humour. Kay was the cheerleader for her whole family. Donations in Kay's memory may be made to the Pennant Seniors Hall P.O.
