She was employed at Great West Life Insurance Company in Winnipeg and Regina prior to raising her children in Saskatoon. After moving back to Swift Current in 1979, Gwen worked at Swift Current Chamber of Commerce to assist in supporting her children through university. She also worked with her husband and children preforming many tasks required for the operation of the family farm. Gwen enjoyed collecting antique articles, camping and fishing with family and friends, and was always ready to play a game of dominoes or cards. She also spent a considerable amount of time supporting her children in hockey, synchronized swimming, and many other activities. She loved her black lab dog that would constantly follow her around, and would even sit on a chair at the kitchen table with her when she worked on sewing and crafts.
