Ernest "Ernie" Moen

The family of Ernest Moen of Cabri, SK, announce with great sadness his passing on June 7, 2019. Ernie was predeceased by his loving wife Verna, his parents Eddie and Mina Moen, his birth mother, Dora McBurney, his birth father Lawrence Clifford, his sister Mildred and her husband Carl Runge and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Margaret and Peter Engel. Left to mourn his loss are his children son Doug (Kathy Undseth) and their children Justin (Alyssa) and Kara (Calen Nixon), son Jim (Nancy) and their children Shawn (Deyne Borgia-Ellis) and Danelle (Brian Renaud) and daughter Joanne and her children Brenden and Chloe, his great grandchildren James, Will and Jack Renaud and Pearse Moen and his birth brother Phil McBurney, his brother-in-law Merv Marsellus and his nieces and nephews. Ernie was born in 1929 in Moose Jaw and raised on the farm near Cabri, SK and in Swift Current. He married Verna Marsellus in 1954 and they moved to the farm in 1957. He was a man of many passions: his family, his farm, sailing, his bass fiddle and travel. He loved working for his community and his contributions included being the Charter President of the Cabri District Lions Club, Councillor and Reeve of the RM of Miry Creek, Councillor in the Town of Cabri, member of the Cabri Regional Park Board, member of Cabri United Church Council and Chairman of the Board of the Cabri Union Hospital. He also served his Province as Chair and member of the Sask Crop Insurance Commission, Chair and member of the Sask Health Care Association, member of the South Sask Hospital Center Board and member of the Sask Commission on Future Directions in Health Care. His family will remember him as a loving and caring man who was hugely interested in what each member of the family did and where they went. He was never happier than in the middle of a family singalong or playing his bass fiddle at a community event. Ernie's family would like to thank all of the caring health professionals at the Prairie Health Care Center in Cabri for his wonderful care. A celebration of Ernie's life will be held at the Cabri Community Hall at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 15, 2019.
