Ernest Tustian Obituary

TUSTIAN: Ernest age 93 of Swift Current, SK and formerly of Shaunavon, SK passed away at the Meadows in Swift Current on December 6, 2019. Ernest Cyril whom was better known as Ernie was born in Shaunavon on March 22, 1926 to Roland and Winnifred Tustian. He received his education at the Anglo and Marcliffe Schools and for the next few years he worked for different farmers in Shaunavon and district. From 1946 to the mid 1950's he worked at various jobs in the Maple Creek area. Ernie returned to Shaunavon in June 1950 and started working for the John Deere dealer and later on for Shaunavon Industries. In the fall of 1951, he purchased a grain truck and began custom grain hauling as well as farming with his dad. In 1958 he and Herman Dupmier went into partnership in the excavating and gravel business while continuing to farm. On December 26, 1960 Ernie married Marjorie (nee Beeson) Forester of Swift Current and they were married for 45 years until her passing. Ernie became a stepdad to Bill and John and they farmed and lived just north of Shaunavon. In 1966, he and his partner Herman, purchased Shaunavon Redi-Mix and a couple of years later he took the business over and operated it until 1978. Many basements can still be found in Shaunavon standing firm today. They also poured the cement to the bridge just south of Gull Lake, SK on Highway 37. Marge operated a real estate business and during this time they built a number of houses in Shaunavon. In 1978, they closed the real estate business, sold the Shaunavon Redi-Mix and sold their home in Shaunavon. They built a home on his grandfather, Fred Sutcliffe's homestead, two miles north of Shaunavon. In 1987, they sold their part of the farm and moved to Swift Current. Ernie and Marge enjoyed travelling in Canada, the United States and Hawaii. Ernie lived a very full life. He was a member of the Elks and was an Exhaulted Ruler, he enjoyed singing in the church choir, curling, bowling, was a member of the fire brigade, town council, and was behind the scenes of the Badgers hockey team doing what he could to help out. He also enjoyed getting together with family, going to coffee row and telling jokes; his sense of humor was one of his many great qualities. On December 8, 2007 Ernie married his last love Sharon. A year later his health started to decline somewhat. They still enjoyed going for coffee's and took a bus tour to Nashville, Memphis and Branson. Ernie had to go to the Palliser in 2014 and then two years later the Meadows. His love of music always showed up at the entertainment; he would sing along to every song, knowing the words that many of us didn't know. Ernie had a big, kind heart and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Ernie is survived by his wife Sharon; stepchildren Mike Zacharias, Steve Zacharias and Renee Zacharias, granddaughter Ashley, great granddaughter Freya and step son John (Cindy) Forester and families; sister Jean O'Brien, her six daughters and their families; step daughter-in-law Fern Forester; sister-in-law Marge (David) Zacaruk; brother-in-law Lance (Val) Boot; as well as nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his first wife Marjorie Tustian; stepson Bill Forester; father Roland Tustian; mother Winnifred (nee Sutcliffe) Grubbe; stepfather Wilfred Grubbe; brothers-in-law Arnold Johnson and Harold O'Brien and grandparents Fred and Ethel Sutcliffe and Ernest and Alice Tustian.
