Elmer Gerbrandt Obituary

Gerbrandt: Elmer James Gerbrandt, age 81, of Swift Current, Sk passed away peacefully July 4, 2019 at the Meadows. The Graveside service was held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday July 10, 2019 at Hillcrest Cemetery with Pastor Rob Cochrane officiating. A Reception followed the interment at 3:00 pm in the Auditorium of the Church of The Open Bible. The Life Tribute was presented by Lindsay Gerbrandt. The Pallbearers were Scott Gerbrandt, Clayton Gerbrandt, Will Hokhold, Harold Gerbrandt, Charles Gerbrandt, Mike Parks, Rob Wells and Dean Neumann. Elmer is survived by the love of his life, Elsie, of more than 61 years; children Dennis (Donna); Laurie (John Barber) and Joe (Cheryl Dubois); grandchildren Lindsay (Mike Park), Scott (Robyn), Clayton, Will, Ella, and Emily and Zoe Dubois; great granddaughter Louise; brothers-in-law Harvey (Kay) Yanke and Robert Yanke; sisters-in-law Anne Gerbrandt, Janice Myron and Doreen (Ken) Norman; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father John and Helen; father-in-law and mother-in-law Bill and Olga Yanke; son Wade; brothers Pete and Archie; brother-in-law Stan Myron; and sisters-in-law Hulda Gerbrandt and Florence Yanke. Elmer was born on the family farm at Rush Lake on September 18, 1937. He attended school at Swan Lake and Elmwood School. He married Elsie Yanke on October 26, 1957 in Swift Current. They moved to the farm and Elmer's interests were focused on all things cattle. They dairied together for 51 years with their son Wade. As a livestock dealer for over 40 years, Elmer enjoyed attending cattle sales. Elmer was an active sports fan. In his youth he played fastball and hockey, as an adult, he was a Blue Jays fan and a lifetime season ticket holder for the Swift Current Broncos. He lived by the mantra, "You've got to have time to talk to people." No matter where he went he would always stop to chat. Everyone who knew him would tell you how quick-witted he was, finding humour in any situation. The family would like to thank Dr. S Bakare and the staff at the Palliser and the Meadows for the special care Elmer received in his last four years.
