Edith Weinbender Obituary

WEINBENDER; Edith Elizabeth August 17, 1932-June 30, 2019. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Edith is survived by her Sons Bernie Weinbender of Medicine Hat, and Doug (Laurie) Weinbender of Okotoks, Alberta. Edith was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Lillian Stevenson; her sister Margaret Hall; husband Walter Weinbender, and husband Ivan Swanson. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Stephanie (Tim) Haroldson, Shauna(Steve)Seymour, Monty Weinbender, Ryley Weinbender, Cheralee (Chad) Placsko, Jared Weinbender, as well as 9 great grandchildren.  Edith was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and was raised on her parent's farm south of Tompkins in the Bone Creek District, in Southwestern Saskatchewan. Edith recounted many fond memories of her childhood on the bench and the fun times had with friends and family. She later moved to Regina where she worked as a nurse's aid, and there she met Walter. They were married in Central Lutheran church in Regina on November 28, 1953. Walter and Edith made a home on a farm south of Ernfold where they raised their sons Bernie and Doug. Edith was a hardworking efficient person and contributed greatly to the farm and family but still had time for friends and neighbors. Edith was a great host and superb cook who offered her hospitality to all that came to visit.  Edith and Walter moved to Swift Current in 1974, and Bernie took over the family farm. During her time in Swift Current, Edith worked as a seamstress as well as in the CSR unit in the Swift Current Union Hospital. However, tragedy struck and her sister Margaret passed prematurely in 1981 leaving behind her 4 children, Gayle, Robert, Jesse and Janet. Edith as the caring loving person she was, tried as best she could to fill the role of mother left by her dear sister. She was very much loved by her nieces and nephews.  Her husband Walter passed on Feb 21, 1996 and Edith later married Ivan Swanson in December of 1997. Ivan and Edith made their home in Swift Current until Ivan's passing in January 2014. Edith lived in Swift Current until 2017 when she relocated to Medicine Hat to live with her son Bernie. Edith was so grateful for wonderful care Bernie provided and the many visits and time spent with Doug. Edith's life revolved around the love for family and she cherished visits and phone calls from all her friends and family. Edith will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
