Dale McCracken Obituary

Dale William McCracken was born in Eston, Saskatchewan on June 10, 1952 to Howard and Mabel McCracken (McDonald). He passed away peacefully on June 4th, 2019 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, SK. Dale grew up on the family farm near Lacadena where he enjoyed the fun of rural life. He worked hard on the farm where he would do chores, milk cows, seed and harvest crops. Dale attended school in Lacadena until grade 9, and then completed grades 10-12 in Elrose. In 1970 he enrolled in the Farm Machinery Mechanics course at the Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon, and graduated in 1972. He started working at Pasquia Equipment in Carrot River where he found lifelong friends, Fred Bradshaw and Ken Lefebvre. Many weekends in the summer were spent chuck wagon racing and snowmobile racing in the winter. In 1976 Dale decided to move back to the family farm and married Brenda Enns of Borden. They lived in Lacadena for a year before they moved their home from Lacadena to the farm. They began driving the school bus to Elrose, and continued to do so for over 30 years. Two children completed their family, Jennifer in 1978, and Cameron in 1981. Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He grew up playing many sports such as ball and hockey, and was a member of Cubs and Scouts. Growing up he enjoyed family holidays at Loon Lake and with his family visited many Provincial Parks especially the Saskatchewan Landing. Dale loved farming and raising cattle. He had a special knack of knowing what needed to be done. Common sense was a special talent of his, along with a keen sense of humour and wit. Being a mechanic he loved to repair things and enjoyed working with his hands. Dale also loved to cook and would make up his own recipes, or secretly add additional spices to the food Brenda was making. Dale's granddaughters, Caitlynn, Brielle and Hanley, were very special to him. He loved spoiling them by making his special ice cream cones, complete with chocolate bars hidden inside, smarties and sprinkles. Dale was a charter member of the Lacadena Lions, were he served various positions. Dale's family would like to say thank you to the many doctors and nurses who treated him over the last three years from St. Paul's Hospital, Royal University Hospital, Rosetown Health Centre, and Cypress Regional Hospital, as well as the Elrose EMS team for their emergency care. Dale was predeceased by his father Howard McCracken and sister Beverley Houk. He is survived by his mother Mabel McCracken; wife Brenda McCracken; daughter Jennifer McCracken (Chad Lafontaine); son Cameron (Crystal) McCracken; and granddaughters Caitlynn Haughian, Brielle McCracken and Hanley McCracken; sister Trudy (Cliff) Powlowski; as well as many nieces and nephews.
