Bernard Kemick

Bernard Andrew John Kemick: February 20, 1931-October 13, 2018, passed away October 13, 2018 at the Shaunavon Care Centre. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., October 30, 2018 at St. Anne's Church, Gull Lake, with Father Anthony Padayatty officiating. The interment service was at Webb View Cemetery. The Ushers were Joyce Metz, Donna Holtby, Bev Robertson, Debbie Fenwick. The Pallbearers were Kevin Kemick, Justin Kemick, Tom Pickering, Trent Pickering, Trevor Pickering, Art Nelson, Tim Robertson, Jack Fenwick and Irwin Catley. Honourary Pallbearers were Dennis Kemick, Gary Whitney, Ed Holst, Linda Bower, Vital and Shirley Monette, Gordon and Francis Schwartz, Laureen Schwartz, Dale and Cora Wilms, Bruce and Donna Rieger. The Eulogy was presented by Doug Rittwage. The Readers were Linda Bower, Lillijean McLeod and Marg Winter. Gift Bearers were Christine Harvey and Stephanie Richmond. MC at the Reception Tea was Bryce Burnett. Left with the fondest memories are his wife Wendy; sons Kevin and wife Monique and Justin; daughter Jennifer; grandchildren Josh, Brody, and Georgia; sister Eileen and husband Tom and their sons Trent and Erin and Trevor and Laura; furry companions Skippy and Kelly; in-law family Lillian and Bud, Brenda, Jean and Bob, Joan and Bruce, Doris and Doug, Amber and Dan, Bruce, Donna and family; nephews and nieces Kevin and Angie, Michelle and Cory, Aimee and Adam, Jeff, Brandy and Tony, Derrick, Daniel and Anu, and Allyson and Jake; great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends who were all very important parts of his life, many as close as family. Bernie was predeceased by: father and mother; grandparents; Brian, Earl, John, Carson, Clayton, uncles, aunts, cousins, and dear friends. Bernie was born February 20, 1931 in Gull Lake, beloved son to Nicholas and Elizabeth (Holst).  He grew up on his cherished family farm south of Webb. He went to school at Prince of Wales and Webb schools. He worked closely with his Father and Mother from the time he was able. They skillfully taught him all about farming and rural life and the value of neighbours and friends. Then came the joy of having a loving sister, Eileen, to share it all with. Bernie became a cowboy taking pleasure in his horses and cattle. He ventured into purebred Horned Herefords, having his first sale in 1963. Sale days were treasured because of the involvement of exceptional friends and family who always helped. Most special was the chance to see and visit with customers and friends. Bernie passed his love of ranch life on to his family; his passion lives on in his children and grandchildren. Volunteer work was a big part of his life. He took great joy in hosting cattle enthusiasts on tours and private visits; including people from other countries, who he was thrilled to learn from. Bernie was a proud member of the Canadian Hereford Assoc for 60 years and the Sask. Hereford Assoc serving as SW Zone Director. Joining the Bull Sale Committee began a long, enjoyable relationship with the Swift Current Ag and Ex Assoc where he made many longtime friends. He served on the Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Livestock Committee for Frontier Days, a committee whose members he was very proud. In gratitude of his contributions he was awarded a lifetime membership and framed print. He also received an honourary life membership to Sask Assoc of Ag Societies and Ex. During this time, he worked with many 4-H families and in appreciation they nominated him to receive the Queen's Jubilee Medal. Sask. 4-H was able to present Bernie with this medal which he was very, very, pleased and proud to receive. Bernie reveled in the brotherhood of the Knights of Columbus. He was a scout leader for 10 years with the highlight of a trip to a Canadian Jamboree. Bernie loved music; singing in talent shows, at weddings, and in choirs but especially delighted in singing with his children. He was a member of Tumbleweed Festival. He was an avid curler and also had fun golfing, fishing, and camping. Family and friends were of utmost importance to Bernie. Family gatherings were always looked forward to; as were times with friends and neighbours. At many of these pleasurable get-togethers he enjoyed playing cards and games with everyone. He played many card games with friends at auction marts and at tournaments. He liked going to fowl suppers, farm auctions, Agribition, rodeos, cattle sales and events; where having a refreshment and visiting were the best part. Bernie had a sweet tooth and was very fond of his desserts and candy; but, he always shared his candies with his grandchildren. Bernie was a proud and involved parent to his children and grandchildren. Bernie moved to the Shaunavon Care Centre in August of 2017 where he gained another family. They welcomed Bernie and our whole family with affection and kindness. We thank the Handi Van committee for their courageous drive to obtain and maintain their beautiful van. The Kemicks wish to thank everyone involved with his care; your compassion and thoughtful dedication will never be forgotten. We thank the doctors in Shaunavon and Swift Current for their guardianship. Special thanks to Dr. Ibrahim for his cheerful, proficient care spanning many, many years.
