Arley Moen Obituary

MOEN: Arley Ole age 91 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 25, 2019 with his family by his side. Arley was born on April 10, 1928 on the farm in the Atlas District west of Stewart Valley, SK to Ole and Eva Moen. Arley is survived by his wife Anne; daughter Charlene (Glenn) King; son Garry (Lisa) Moen; grandsons Wade (Kinsey) and Scott King; sisters-in-law Liane Tedrick, Lois (Bill) Pyett and Phyllis Spiker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Ole and Eva (nee Barber) Moen; brother Neil Moen; parents-in-law Frank and Mary Smalcel; brothers and sisters-in-law Ray Spiker, Harry Tedrick, Art and Mary Lawes and Ted and Kate Jones. Arley moved to Stewart Valley at a young age with his family and he attended school in Stewart Valley. At the age of 17, he headed out to work at various jobs and places. In 1957 he started working for Mobil Oil in Swift Current, SK and this is where he met Anne Smalcel and on August 16, 1958 they were united in marriage in Medicine Hat, AB. In 1961 he took over the service station in Stewart Valley and moved there from Swift Current. In 1963 he bought an acerage to start up a pig business. They moved their house to the acerage in 1967 and resided there until they moved to the Golden West Manor in March of 2018. Over the years he raised his pig's, farmed with his dad and operated the garage in Stewart Valley. In his later years he then helped Garry with his farming. He served on the R. M. Council, the Hospital Board, and drove school bus for many years. He loved to do his mechanical tinkering, watching sports, read and play cards until his eye sight would no longer allow. He loved to sit around the kitchen table drinking coffee visiting with friends and family. In the last few years he enjoyed the company of his family and grandsons as well as reminiscing with his friend's about past years. He loved all the aspects of farm life and all of the animals he cared for in the 55 years on the farm. In January 2019 Arley had the misfortune of a hip fracture from a fall that he never really fully recovered from, that kept him from returning to the Manor to be with Anne. As per Arley's request no formal service will be held at this time. Donations in Arley's memory may be made to the C.N.I.B.
