Funeral Planning

Last year in North America, more than one million people planned and paid for their funerals ahead of time, and it is estimated five million funerals will be pre-arranged annually within the next five years.

Planning your funeral provides peace of mind for both yourself and your loved ones. Funeral planning ensures that your wishes are known. In addition, planning for the future eases the financial burden on your family.

1. Bereavement Support Group of Swift Current

"Through support and sharing comes help and hope"

The Bereavement Support Group is here to provide a comfortable and supportive environment in which grieving individuals can interact and share their experiences and memories. This is an opportunity for remembering, emoting, bringing closure and focusing on reinvesting in living.

The Bereavement Support Group provides professional support and guidance through the natural process of moving through grief. We operate under the auspices of the Swift Current Palliative Care Advisory Committee to which there is accountability and from which mandates are received.

Group sessions are led by an interdisciplinary team consisting of nurses, physicians, pastors, home care workers, social workers, community health workers, pharmacists, funeral directors and volunteers.

The program addresses a number of topics and issues:

  • Phases of grief
  • Tasks of mourning
  • Grief reactions (physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual)
  • Grief management
  • Dealing with fear, anger and guilt
  • Coping strategies
  • The art of living again
  • Lessons the dead can teach us
  • Coping with holidays and special family days

Any person, regardless of age, who is experiencing bereavement, is welcome to join the group sessions. We would ask you make a commitment to come to each session. There is a $20.00 fee to cover some of the costs involved.
