Marie"Therese" Sundholm

Juliette Marie “Therese” (Marin) Sundholm, formerly of Cabri, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Meadows on March 17, close to her 95th birthday.  Therese was predeceased by her husband Lyle Sundholm, her parents Wilfrid and Juliette (Pilon) Marin, sister Simone (Norman) Gogal, brothers; Marcel (Leona) Marin, Gervais (Bernice) Marin, Henry (Marlene) Marin and Lorraine Styba, Lyle’s parents, John and Lilly Sundholm, brother- in-law’s; Clint Sundholm, Harvey (Vivian) Sundholm, sister- in- law’s; Joyce (Dennis) McLaughlin, and Shirley (Sigrud) Angeltvedt.  She is survived by her brother Doria, sister- in-law Helen Sundholm and numerous nieces and nephews.

Therese was born in Bapaume, near Spiritwood Saskatchewan, in 1929.  The family lived there until they moved to Wabowden, Manitoba in about 1946 and later to Las Pas.  In 1950, Therese and a friend moved to Penticton, B.C. where they found work picking fruit and working in a cannery.  Lyle was working in logging camps and sawmills when he met Therese and they married in 1952.  They moved back to the Swift Current area in 1953.  Lyle got the opportunity to work with Dowell-Slumberger in the oil patch, and so their nomadic life began.  Lyle and Therese lived and worked in numerous places throughout southern Saskatchewan before ending up in the new town of Swan Hills, Alberta.  Dowell offered Lyle work overseas and they jumped at the opportunity, spending time at camps in Argentina, Venezuela, and Algeria.  In 1967, they had enough of camps and moved back to Saskatchewan.  They bought a farm in the Hazlet area and a “winter” house in Cabri.  They farmed until Lyle had a stroke in 2001.  Lyle passed away in 2008.  Therese stayed in Cabri until 2018 when she moved to Riverview Estates in Swift Current and to the Meadows in 2021.

Therese and Lyle had a motorhome and enjoyed lots of travelling.  Therese enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, quilting, playing cards and entertaining company.  She looked forward to Lyle’s U.S.A. cousin bringing up the California boys and their families to hunt geese and socialize every fall, 14 of them came one year.  Therese and Lyle processed ducks and geese for hunters in the fall.  She also cooked for an outfitter at the “Goose Hilton”, one half mile down the road from the farm, for a few years.  She had many stories to tell from her travels and the people she met, but one of her favorites was when Ducks Unlimited brought Patrick Duffy (Bobby Ewing) and Steve Kanaly (Ray Krebbs) from the T.V. series “Dallas” to Saskatchewan to hunt and speak at the fund-raising banquet in Regina.  They stayed at the "Hilton" for a few nights before returning to Regina. Therese told how at the banquet all the women were swarming around Patrick Duffy.  He broke away from them to come over to her, give her a hug, a kiss on the cheek and to tell her what a great cook she was.  “Were those other women ever jealous!”

Therese was small in stature but large in life.  She was a great neighbor and friend to all.  She will be missed.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.  Thanks to the Meadows Staff of House 5 for all the care and kindness they gave her.  Donations in memory of Therese can be made to the Charity of your choice.
