Betty Caroline (Weinknecht) Twamley
August 9, 1940 – April 5, 2024

Betty, who was known as Mom or Nana, has passed away peacefully in the company of her family.  She is survived by her loving husband Allen, with whom she spent over sixty-three years of marriage.  Betty is also survived by her three daughters: Ranae, DeLea (Kirk), and Shelley (Clint); six grandchildren: Miranda, Brady, Christopher, Shelby, Chelsea, and Jessie; and seven great-grandchildren: Hollis, Asher, Silas, Charlotte, Bennet, Atlas, and Scarlet. Her sister Gloria (Jim), and brother Glen (Wanda) are also among her surviving family members.  Betty was born in Swift Current to Carl and Elizabeth Weinknecht, who have predeceased her. 

Betty enjoyed a close relationship with her family, which brought her great joy.  She was excited to visit Summerland, B.C. every year to spend time with her grandkids and enjoy her favorite wines.  She maintained friendships with her many aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout the years.  Betty and her husband had a long-lasting marriage that endured for over sixty-three years.  Allen proposed to her on July 22, 1960, and they were married on December 27, 1960.  After retiring from a lifetime of farming, they spent their winters in Victoria, B.C., and then later in Arizona, and the Mercedes, Texas area. 

Betty had many lasting friendships with dear friends from across Canada and the United States.  She also had many dear friends in Swift Current, including a cherished group of friends called the Super Seven.  She had a cousin she treasured greatly, they frequently met for afternoon coffee.  Betty was an avid golfer and a skilled seamstress.  She sewed many fancy dresses for her daughters as children, and later for her grandchildren.  Later in life, she changed course and became adept in the craft of quilting.  Betty had a green thumb, her gardens at the farm and in town were to be envied.  In later years one of her many pastimes was to wander the aisles of greenhouses picking out a favorite plant to add to her impressive collection in her home. 

Betty was an energetic and adventurous person who never wasted a moment, a ‘firecracker.’  She worked very hard and was always open to new experiences.  She willingly taught her daughters how to ride their farm motorbike, and tried rollerblading and biking with her grandchildren, rising to the challenge.  Betty raised her daughters to be strong and independent.  She was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passing on her values of strength and independence.  Her kindness, friendship, and generosity will always be remembered by those who knew her.
 
Betty, Mom, Nana, and Allen’s beautiful girl, you will be deeply missed by everyone.  May you rest in peace; fly with the angels, Mom.  Until we meet again. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
