James Foster

FOSTER: James "Jim" William Foster, age 95, of Swift Current, SK and fomerly of Bracken, SK, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Swift Current Care Centre. The funeral service was held at 2 PM Tuesday, May 22, 2012 from the First United Church, Swift Current, SK, with Reverend Sharon Ferguson-Hood officiating. The organist was Patti McCleary. A duet was sung by Karin Mitchell and Verna Howlett of Swift Current and the eulogist was the granddaughter Shannon Lamb. Grandson Brett Foster prepared the tribute music picture video featuring the song "The Old Man"sung by John McDermott presented during the service along with another video of pictures displayed prior to the service. The ushers were Ron & Carole Toles. An interment service will be held at a later date. Jim was cherished by his wife, Irene; daughter Ardell Glenmore; son Darrell (Barbara); son Randy (Myrna); grandchildren: Chris Flagg, Shannon Lamb (Garth), Brett Foster (Maria), Travis Foster (Kealy Hauck) and Dana Murphy (Trevor); seven great grandchildren: Cody and Paige Lamb, Annissa and Zoe Foster and Ty, Kane and Sydney Murphy; sisters-in-law Joyce Gjertsen, Cranbrook, BC, and Nona Kirby, Strathmore, AB and brother-in-law Harold Gjertsen, Lucky Lake, SK, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents James and Sarah Foster and his four siblings and their spouses: sister Dorothy Hammer (Harold), brothers: Jack (Ruth), Stanley (Olga) and Doug (Hazel) and a son-in-law Mike Glenmore. Jim was born September 30, 1916 in Winnipeg, MB. His parents later homesteaded in the Bracken area. Jim attended  Edmond school. He married Irene Elizabeth Gjertsen of Orkney, SK on September 20, 1941 at Climax, SK and they farmed at Bracken. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served as military police in the Provost Corp. He was overseas in London England from 1944-45. Jim was a farmer with a deep love and passion for farming and his cattle. He farmed into his 80's and was very proud of Randy and  his wife Myrna and grandson Travis continuing the family farm. The family gives a sincere and grateful thank you to the wonderful staff at the Swift Current Care Centre, where Jim resided for the past three years. Jim was a loving husband to Irene for over 70 years, and was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved people, sharing stories, and was always positive and had a great sense of humour. He will be sadly missed by his family and will be in their hearts forever.
