Durward "Dirk" Seafoot

Durward (Dirk) Walter Seafoot, age 92 of  Webb, Sk, passed away March 25, 2010 at Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, Sk. The Funeral Service was held Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Webb Community Hall with Reverend Bev Diduck officiating. The organist was Millie Spagrud. The Life Tribute was presented by Mark Covell. The ushers were Norman White and Cal White and pallbearers were Norman Fiddler, Bob Fiddler, Dennis Fiddler, Jack Fenwick, Randy Fenwick and Steve Small. An Honor Guard was formed by members of the Gull Lake Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #119. The interment service took place at the Webb View Cemetery. Dirk was born on the family farm with his Grandmother Duby performing midwife services on Nov 26, 1917. He attended school at the Banks School. In 1937 during the depression Dirk and friends rode the rails to the East looking for work. They found some farm work in Ontario and Manitoba sending money home to help their families in drought-stricken Saskatchewan. When World War Two started, Dirk enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands where he served for 14 months as an Airframe Mechanic. After the War, he came back to the family farm where he lived and actively farmed until 2000. He was involved with the farm and its operation for about 73 years. He was a brilliant conversationalist and was always abreast of current affairs. He could talk to anyone about any subject. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed military history books. He enjoyed the time spent with family and friends, his annual winter trips to Mexico that he made for 50 years, and following his investments. He is survived by his sister Hazel Mulhall of Gull Lake and his sister-in law Evelyn Edmonds (Covell) of Dalmeny; nephews Bill Mulhall of Gull Lake, Bob Newman of Toronto, Mark Covell (Christi) and Jay Covell of Swift Current and Jamie Allen of Luseland and; nieces Arlette (Steven) Allen and Alyssa Allen of Luseland. He is also survived by his cousins Elaine Kromrey (Seafoot), Donna Shuler and Tricia Campbell of Swift Current, Jean Tronsgard (Hessel) and Sandy (Glen) McAlister (Seafoot) of Calgary, his good friend and neighbor Randy Fenwick of Gull Lake, and other further removed nieces, nephew and cousins. He was predeceased by his father William Seafoot in 1930 and his mother Alice Covell (Seafoot) in 1982; his stepfather Joseph Covell, brother Orval Covell, sisters Phyllis Shelley and Freda Newman, niece Gay Garwan (Mulhall) and brothers-in-law Ross Newman and Gerald Mulhall. Dirk will be dearly missed by all who knew him. In Dirk's memory, memorial donation may be made to the Gull Lake Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #119 or the Clairbank Community Club.
